Mechanic Assistant – 8.0 hours/day @ Transportation

 

     Job Description

  1. Service district motor vehicles by changing oil, greasing/lubricating, and filling fuel tanks
  2. Lubricates equipment in accordance with established procedures and charts; checks and changes oil, oil and air filters, fuels and services buses and other motor pool vehicles as needed; replaces hoses, belts, water pumps, batteries and similar equipment and parts.
  3. Checks wiper blades and other safety equipment; checks radiators and batteries, checks water and coolant levels, checks air in tires and adjusts pressure.
  4. Maintains records of work performed and the need for future services.
  5. Cleans and maintains shop facilities and equipment.
  6. Drives bus and motorized equipment as needed.
  7. Fill in as a substitute driver on trips and routes when assigned.
  8. Schedules vehicles for preventative maintenance as well as maintain motor pool i.e. cleaning vehicle interior, fueling, etc.
  9. Help maintain garage parts inventory, equipment, and supply inventory.
  10. Knowledge of laws pertaining to vehicle requirements and related areas.
  11. Be on call for emergencies that may occur on weekends and or evenings.
  12. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation, Assistant Director and/or Lead Mechanic.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Physically able to lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
2. Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
3. Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.
4. Ability to enter and exit bus using emergency exit.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Valid Washington State School Bus Driver’s Endorsement and current Washington state driver’s license.
  2. Experience with basic computer programs (Word, Excel, etc.) as well as the ability to learn district programs. (i.e. Fleetvision and Fast Field)
  3. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  4. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  5. Ability to apply concepts of basis algebra and geometry.

      Contracted Days: 248 work days & 12 holidays (260 total contracted days)
