Migrant Student Advocate – Bilingual Spanish Required* - 6.5 hours/day @ Othello High School

 

     Job Description

  • Collaborates with school staff to identify at-risk students as defined by poor academic progress, poor attendance, and other related criteria.
  • Meets with students and families to identify and fully understand the issues impacting the student’s performance at school.
  • Develops effective prevention and intervention strategies and techniques designed to result in better academic progress, improved school attendance, and overall appropriate school and life actions.
  • Implements programs involving students, families, community resources, and relevant staff as appropriate to address issues.
  • Identifies family needs not being served; identifies and develops strategies to overcome barriers that prevent families from utilizing existing resources.
  • Acts as a liaison with community agencies, promoting on-site collaboration.
  • Makes referrals to community agencies for families; develops procedures for family self-referral to health and social services.
  • Develops systems of data collection and record keeping to document progress of services; evaluates effectiveness of the program according to specific goals using data collected. Establishes baseline data for students served; collects relevant data after interventions; and reports as directed at school, district, and county levels.
  • Participates in relevant training as appropriate.
  • Participates in collaborative meetings within the school and district, and outside the district to be able to better serve at-risk students.
  • Serves as a member of the instructional team of the district; perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position; other duties as assigned.

 

      Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduate, or GED.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, experience working with children and adults, good time manager, initiative.
  • *Bilingual in Spanish required, passed OSD Spanish proficiency test.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft and Google applications.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
  • Physically able to occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
  • Ability to focus (adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.

      Salary:              Per PSE CBA - Schedule A

      Hours:               Per Position Listed Above

            Contracted Days: 179 work days & 7 holidays (186 total contracted days)
