The city of Othello (city limits population approximately 7,500/countryside approximately 6,000) is located in the heart of the Columbia Basin agricultural region of Eastern Washington and enjoys an annual average of 280 days of sunshine. The climate is essential to the primary occupations of agriculture (with more than 67 different irrigated crops) and related businesses and industries. Major employers in town include two large potato processing plants. Headquarters and service shops for the East Columbia Basin Irrigation District are located in Othello.

The region provides an abundance of recreational opportunities including the Columbia Basin Wildlife Refuge, the Potholes State Park, and Scootney Springs Reservoir, hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, and nature activities are easily accessible to local residents. Othello features parks and public facilities that include a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a golf course. Medical facilities are excellent with two well-equipped clinics and a hospital honored as one of the best 100 small hospitals in the country.

The district serves more than 4,200 students at seven campuses. The annual operating budget is approximately $44 million, of which approximately $6.5 million is federal and state funds.

The community has been supportive of the school district’s maintenance and operations levies and funded a $28.6 million bond to modernize and construct facilities. The district incorporates cutting edge programs and works in alliance with consultants to facilitate education for its diverse student population. Community members, staff, students, and the board are proud of their schools and continue to support quality academic and co-curricular programs and activities. This pride is reflected in the numerous volunteers who work with our students and staff.
